Three black bears that once roamed the mountains of Bradford County, were recently accepted into Boone & Crockett's (B&C) 28th Big Game Awards Program. The largest was taken in Terry Township in 2002 by Randall Johnson of Wyalusing. Randy's bear scored 22-2/16 making it the 2nd largest ever taken in the County, and the 3rd heaviest at 603 lbs. It ranks appoximately 26th in the state out of nearly 700 entries.
Another black bear was found dead in Leroy Township in 2004 by Mark Madden of Towanda. That skull measured 21-9/16. The cause of death was unknown.
The 3rd recently accepted entry was taken by Scott Miller of Dushore in 2008 in Wilmot Township. That bear weighed 557 lbs. and scored 20-4/16.
